The Department of Textile Chemical Engineering was established in 1951. As one of the earliest academic units in China dedicated to teaching and scientific research in textile chemistry, it offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs, and hosts a postdoctoral program. The discipline of textile chemistry and dyeing & finishing stands as both a national and Shanghai municipal key discipline. The department is home to four pivotal research bases: the National Engineering Research Center for Dyeing and Finishing of Textiles, the National Manufacturing Innovation Center of Advanced Dyeing and Finishing Technology, the Ministry of Education's Key Lab of Sustainable Low-carbon Technologies for Textile Dyeing and Finishing, and the Ministry of Educations key lab of Textile Fabric Science and Technology (dyeing and finishing division).

Through generations of united endeavor, unwavering cooperation, and dedicated work, the Department of Textile Chemical Engineering has flourished into a remarkable institution. It now boasts a distinguished team of highly qualified professors and state-of-the-art facilities for both teaching and scientific research, standing as a pivotal base for talent cultivation and groundbreaking innovation in textile chemistry and dyeing & finishing. Its robust faculty, comprising thirteen professors, thirteen associate professors, and seven personnel with intermediate professional titles, includes one esteemed Academician of the China Academy of Engineering and fourteen Ph.D. supervisors. The department has also forged strong, collaborative bonds with numerous international universities and multinational companies, fostering a legacy of excellent cooperation.
